ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE LAND OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE in the merry old land of ENGLAND (1882 to be exact), there lived a fair maiden, a 19 year old medical student by the name of Rosina Despard. There were dogs in the house, including a Skye terrier....
One night, Rosina, preparing for bed, heard a sound outside by the staircase. Thinking it was her mother, she looked out and was greeted by a tall lady dressed in black. Rosina followed her down the stairs, but Rosina's candle was running low and the woman disappeared.
Over the next two years, Rosina saw the spirit of the lady in black no less than six times, while it was seen by others three times. Rosina decided to confront the spirit.
One day while in the drawing room, she saw and spoke to the ghost of the lady, but as the lady started to speak, she only let out a "slight gasp" and moved to the door. Rosina tried to speak again, but the lady disappeared as she had done before....
The medical student was determined to find out who this mysterious LADY IN BLACK was ~ who was roaming Rosina's hallways...so she tied fine chord between the staicase. She saw THE LADY IN BLACK WALK RIGHT THROUGH THE CHORD!
There was a certain fear of THE LADY ~ felt even by the dogs. One day the Skye terrier looked like it was greeting the spirit by wagging its tail & fawning, only to put its tail between its legs and 'disappear' under the bed in very short order. SO WHO WAS THIS STRANGE AND ILLUSIVE LADY?
As Janet Bord relates, that even though THE LADY IN BLACK kept a handkerchief to her face with her right hand, the Despard family felt confident that she was the spirit of Mrs. Imogen Swinhoe, who was the widow of Henry Swinhoe, the previous owners of the house. Imogen was the second wife of Henry, and she died in 1878, two years before Henry and four years before the Despard family moved in.
As the sad story goes, it was a "turbulent marriage" where they both drunk "heavily", arguing over the raising of Henry's children from his first marriage. [[ONE CAN JUST IMAGINE THE NEGATIVE ENERGIES IN THIS HOUSE AT THAT TIME IN THE 1870s.]]
Eventually THE LADY IN BLACK died at the tender age of 41, shortly after she had left her husband....
[[ONE CAN ONLY SPECULATE THAT HER SORROW KEPT THE HANDKERCHIEF BY HER CHEEK TO CATCH THE TEARS OF HER TREVAIL, SO THAT NO ONE WOULD SEE THE FURROWS THEY CREATED ON HER VISAGE....SUCH A SAD YET POIGNANT STORY. I DO HOPE SOMEONE ESCORTS HER TO THE LIGHT,SO SHE CAN ASSUAGE HER SORROW ~ AND EVENTUALLY TURN HER SORROW INTO JOY! I, for one, will pray for THE LADY IN BLACK, since this poor lady could have been any ONE of us~ IN ANOTHER TIME OR ANOTHER SPACE.]]

[[IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT DoGs ARE A VERY GOOD BARAMETER FOR SENSING ALL TYPES OF THINGS ~ ESPECIALLY E~VIL ~THINGS....THE BELOW STORY ABOUT THE WEIRDNESS IN NEW JERSEY IS NO EXCEPTION...OR WHAT IS LURKING JUST ASIDE THE FOOTHILLS OF "CIVILIZATION!"]]
If you look at a map of New Jersey, you will find a place west of ELIZABETH & north of EDISON called WATCHUNG, right off of INTERSTATE 78, AND slightly west of Scotch Plains....This is where Melanie was hiking one fine and muddy day with her sister, her dog & another friend. {THE WATCHUNG MOUNTAINS,to be precise, where weird things tend to happen.}}
SATANIC RITUAL ON NEW JERSEY MOUNTAIN?

Melanie, according to WEIRD NEW JERSEY, about ten years ago(1992?) was traversing the trails of "Watchung Reservation' which all conveniently lead to 'Surprise Lake'; their particular destination this day was "Magic Forest". Since it was the early spring, it was muddy & slipprey.
All of a sudden, their dog started barking like mad! OUT OF NOWHERE ~ a man was running along a steep incline and he proceeded to speed down the mountain at an ABNORMAL SPEED and then leapt across the path to the other side of the mountain. Accordiang to Melanie, THIS WAS TOTALLY WEIRD because the distance the man jumped was impossible and he never stopped running.
The dog was still upset when they came to a trail they never were down before. They came to a "dried up field that looked like wheat." (It was very near the sound barrier wall of Rt. 78.)
THE DOG WENT BERSERK! Ahead was an old red barn with scorch marks around the window frames. The animal pens had no animals, but there were what looked like blood trails all over the dried up grass. There were burned candles placed in a circular pattern within the pens. As Melanie stated in so many words: WE'RE OUT OF HERE & WE'RE NOT COMING BACK!!!
Melanie,herself, grew up in Scotch Plains, which is at the foothills of the Watchung Mountains, and there were many stories of Satanic rituals that occurred up in the mountains...but she mentioned an interesting POSTSCRIPT: About eight years ago, while driving near the mountains, Melanie and her sister & friend saw flames in the distance. As the fire & police streamed in, they noticed that it WAS NOT AN ORDINARY FIRE! It was a perfectly designed circle with a Pagan star in the middle. Acording to Melanie, IT WAS THE CREEPIEST THING!
[[I wonder if the'man' that Melanie,INC. saw had 'goat-like' feet? After all, he was speeding down a muiddy incline, so the idea cannot be automatically dismissed. REMEMBER THE STORY ON THE WEB PAGE: "VERY UNUSAUL THINGS" about a -goat-footed-man- "spotted" in the woods of NEW JERSEY!?! WARNING: If anyone, Jerseyite or otherwise, intends on strolling up the Watchung Mountains, bring a DoG (no two), a Bible, and perhaps a 'SHARPENED' stick & stake, for purposes that only can be surmised!?!]]
